ಖ್ಯಾತ ಜರ್ಮನ್ ಕವಿ ಬ್ಯಾರ್ತೊಲ್ತ್ ಬ್ರೆಕ್ಟ್ ನ The Burning of the Books ಎಂಬ ಕವಿತೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಶಾ.ಬಾಲೂರಾವ್ ಜರ್ಮನ್ ನಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಈ ಕನ್ನಡ ಅನುವಾದವನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಈ ಕವಿತೆಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸುವ ನನ್ನ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ:
The Burning of the Books
The Regime commanded
the books of lies shall be burnt,
Caravan of weary oxen
hauled cartloads of books
to the raging inferno,
A rusticated Writer,
the likes of the eminent,
deciphered that his books
were spared,
In rage, he rushed to his desk,
with his fiery pen,
wrote to the authorities,
"Burn, burn me,"
"Haven't I spoken the truth all the time ?"
"Why do you hold me, a liar ?"
"I command, burn, burn me..."
